We’ve Painted the New Town Red

We’ve Painted the New Town Red!

Edinburgh’s New Town has been at the heart of Lorn Macneal Architects’ work for many years, and it’s fair to say we’ve left our mark.

This map highlights some of the projects we’ve worked on across the New Town, from careful alterations and renovations to larger-scale refurbishments and the adaptation of historic properties for modern living.

Working within one of Edinburgh’s most distinctive and carefully preserved areas brings its own challenges. Many of these buildings are listed, with historic proportions, details and materials that need to be understood and respected. At the same time, our clients want their homes to work for the way they live today.

Our approach is about finding that balance, retaining the character and craftsmanship of these remarkable buildings whilst introducing thoughtful, contemporary interventions where they are needed.

With projects spread across famous streets including Moray Place, Royal Circus, Heriot Row and beyond, the map is a small illustration of just how closely our work is tied to the New Town.

And, judging by all the red, we’ve painted quite a bit of it!
